at  The Fiber Gallery  7000 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle WA 

A 2.5 hour hands-on digital photography workshop for knitters. Gale Zucker, professional photographer for knitwear and craft books, will help you  make better photos of your finished knit projects, and how to make them sing online.

Bring your camera (dslr or point & shoot are both welcome) and finished projects to photograph. Handouts will be provided.

 Topics:

• Photographing yarn, fiber, and finished objects, both on & off people.

• Choosing backgrounds & colors.

• Simple lighting tricks and solutions to fiber &  knitwear photography problems.

• Optimizing your images once they’re out of the camera and into a blog page or website.

BIO:         

Gale Zucker is the co-author/ photographer of  the knitting book Shear Spirit: Ten Farms, Twenty Projects and Miles of Yarn (PotterCraft 2008) . She also photographed Mason Dixon: Knitting Outside the Lines (PotterCraft October 2008). She is working on a new book  about handcrafters for Random House with her Shear Spirit  partner, noted Santa Barbara-based write Joan Tapper.

Along with her knitting/craft work, Gale  is  an award-winning editorial and commercial photographer who’s worked on assignment for Smithsonian, Yankee, Wine Spectator, TV Guide, NBC, Discovery, CraftStylish, Womans Day, and for The New York Times.

The Photography for Knitters Workshops started in 2009. She’s taught them in Minnesota, Massachusetts and Connecticut, with weekend workshops in Virginia, Kentucky and Michigan coming this summer. Gale’s home base is Connecticut, with her husband & sons.

TWO DAYS OF HANDS-ON DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KNITTERS, CRAFTBLOGGERS AND FIBER ARTISTS

SATURDAY & SUNDAY JULY 10 & 11, 2010     9:30 - 4:30

A hands-on digital photography workshop weekend. Improve your images of fiber related projects, and the world around you! Taught in the farm fiber studio, while enjoying the beauty of a working farm.  Along with photography instruction, we’ll tour the farm, photograph animals, meet the lambs and wallow in fibery goodness. We’ll also be going on an alpaca wine & cheese hike at nearby Seldom Scene Farm. And no doubt there’ll  be some knitting, too.

 Our host is Dianne MacDonald, the owner and shepherd. Here’s how she describes her place:

            “Everyday at Tanglewood Farm is an adventure in fiber farming. The resident sheep, alpacas and llamas provide us with fabulous fleeces. Their winning , though sometimes quirky, personalities make our hard work worthwhile. Our farm is located along the Palisades of the Kentucky River in the beautiful Bluegrass area of central Kentucky. We are thrilled to be hosting a group of like-minded fiber enthusiasts and plan to give you a weekend full of memorable experiences. While you are here, we ‘ll show you southern hospitality at its best!”

A lifelong knitter, Gale says creating Shear Spirit was a grand mash-up of her passions for photography and fiber.  She lives in Branford, Connecticut, with her husband and two sons, a large hairy dog, and wishes for goats.
