Joan is off exploring the southwest - I'm not even sure what state - and I'm fighting the entropy that is my office this week. I'm thinking I may need to set up some reward knitting on this or I'll never get the desk cleared.

a funny thing happened on the way to the blog

I've had every intention of getting back to blogging and showing off my two finished Taos berets, but I got distracted. First I bought an iPhone, since I needed a cell phone as well as a way of getting email on the road. That was last week. I took it home, unwrapped it, connected it to my Mac, assured that getting started was a snap. Unfortunately, the first message that came up was a note that my computer was not advanced enough for the phone. And a quick look at the "about my Mac" note showed that it wasn't big enough for the new Leopard operating system either.

I needed something in between – Tiger, it turned out, but Apple didn't seem to be selling that on line anymore. So on Monday I headed for my friendly local Mac store. Tiger would do it, they said, but of course, they didn't have any more copies. I didn't need the whole install, just the upgrade and they found where I could order it on line. So I did that, and had it sent by two-day Fedex. After two days, I called, since I didn't have a tracking number for the order. And it turned out, they no longer had the upgrade, just the full install. Did I want it? Well, it was still cheaper than a new computer, so yes I did. Two days after that, it arrived, and I actually managed to install the new operating system. The computer seems to work. So does email, which has more bells and whistles than I know what to do with. Though I did figure out how to add my name to the bottom of my emails, something I'd wondered about for a long time.

So I was ready to try the iPhone again, when I realized I needed iTunes. I opened that, but it wouldn't open because I needed to update my new updated operating system. Actually, I knew how to do that, so I downloaded my software updates, let them install, restarted the computer, and sure enough everything still seems to work, and I can open iTunes. Maybe later today I'll even try to connect the iPhone.

And then I'll get around to posting pictures of my knitting, which seems remarkably simple after my technological wanderings of the last week.
